Studying Abroad soon? How to check which courses are approved

When researching study abroad programs outside of Tippie, like CIEE or an IES semester, it is important that you pay attention to which classes have been approved by Tippie. There is a step by step guide of how to do this on the Tippie Global Website.

  1. Visit the Study Abroad search to identify a partner program
  2. After finding a program, visit MyUI Transfer Institution Search
  3. Select transfer institution/Study abroad program where credit will be granted. See your study abroad advisor if you need help identifying the institution
    • Examples: IES- Institution for International Educ of Students Barcelona , Barcelona SPAIN, CIEE Shanghai, Shanghai CHINA, Wells College
  4. Select the UI College – “Tippie College of Business”
  5. Select the curriculum area of courses you would like returned- “All evaluated courses”
  6. Leave transfer department and course blank
  7. Results will show courses all that have been approved for transfer and the equivalency. Your advisor will indicate approval on your Credit Approval Form from the Study Abroad Office.
  8. If you do not see your institution, program, or class, you will need to request a course evaluation

MSCI:3000 and MSCI:3005 format updates

The business core is introducing a new format to MSCI:3000 Operations Management and MSCI:3005 Information Systems that becomes effective Fall 2020. The courses will change from 3 s.h. to 2 s.h., and be offered off-cycle for 8 weeks each.

We know that changes in the curriculum bring up many questions. To help address those, please use our Frequently Asked Questions resource. Included are answers to questions like:

  • Why is this change happening?
  • How are the courses different?
  • What if I have already taken one or both?
  • What about the Second-Grade-Only option?

If you have already completed the courses or are currently enrolled in one/both, you have met the requirement for the course. We advise that you continue your enrollment to follow your academic plan and do not make changes to your registration based on this curriculum update.

Changing your registration can significantly affect your course sequencing and has the potential to impact your graduation timeline. We advise to continue your enrollment. If you have concerns about this, please contact your academic advisor before making a change.

Shhhh…..Women in Business Silent Auction this Thursday!

Join Women in Business (WIB) at their annual Silent Auction this Thursday, October 10th.

All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Iowa Women’s Foundation, a statewide nonprofit based in Iowa City that advocates for economic self-sufficiency for Iowa women.

Thursday, October 10
10:00am – 2:30pm
West Galleria, PBB (near Pat’s Diner)

How does a silent auction work?
A silent auction is a common way for organizations (often nonprofits) to raise funds.  Goods and services donated by businesses and individuals are packaged into gift baskets, often with a theme, such as “movie night” or “spa retreat.”  Those gift baskets are then set out on tables with a bid sheet at each one.  During auction hours, anyone can come by to look at the gift baskets and decide if they would like to bid on one.  To bid, you write your name, contact info, and your bid amount on the bid sheet.

If you are the person with the highest bid on that sheet at the end of the auction, you are the winner.  You will be contacted and asked to pay for your gift basket for your bid amount.
