Accounting Major Pre-Admission Writing Assessment- Click Post for Dates/Times

Accounting Major Pre-Admission Writing Assessment

The writing assessment will be administered on Thursday, October 3 at 6:30 p.m. in room 101 Biology Building East (BBE) and Friday, October 4, at 3:30 p.m. in W107 PBB.  Students who plan to start the undergraduate accounting major in the spring 2020 semester should take the assessment on one of these two dates.  If you previously passed the Accounting Department writing assessment, then you have met this particular requirement for admission to the accounting major and do not need to take it again.  Students must have either completed or be currently enrolled in ACCT:2200 Managerial Accounting (or course equivalent) to be eligible to take the writing assessment.  For additional information and to register for the assessment, please refer to the writing assessment website at: https://tippie.uiowa.edu/current-students/undergraduates/academics/majors-and-minors/accounting/accounting-writing-skills-assessment

Traveling for an academic conference or study abroad? Travel grants available

Sally and Ken Mason Student Success Grant

Description/Eligibility for Award
Sally and Ken Mason Student Success Grants are available to support travel for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, to include travel to academic and professional meetings and conferences, study abroad, and any other student travel deemed beneficial to the student’s academic experience.  Preference will be given to first-generation undergraduate students.  At the University of Iowa, first-generation students are those students who do not have a parent(s) or legal guardian(s) who completed a four-year degree.  Students can request up to $500 per application, but no more than one $500 award will be made to any individual student.

The student’s travel must take place after December 1, 2019, but no later than May 15, 2020.

Application Instructions
Please use the online application form.

Include (by uploading via the online application form) the following supporting materials:

  • An estimated travel budget for the trip, and
  • One letter of support from a faculty or staff member or advisor (addressing how the student’s travel is deemed beneficial to the student’s academic experience, and how the travel supports and advances the student’s educational experience at the University of Iowa).

Registration is now open for the free Iowa Law Expo on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City, IA.

(Students are not required to attend all events. Please participate in the day to the extent you are able.)

The Law Expo includes:

·        A law school fair with representatives from more than 90 law schools around the country

·        A tour of the UI College of Law

·        Breakout sessions for students

The Law Expo is an excellent opportunity to learn more about law school and the legal profession. Prospective law students from throughout the Midwest are encouraged to attend this free event. Register now.

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Apply for the National Diversity Case Competition Team by Sept. 27th

The Kelley School of Business (Indiana University) – National Diversity Case Competition (NDCC) is a premier event that brings together top-level, diverse talent from colleges and universities across the country. The two-day event includes a networking reception and dinner, case competition, and workshops. The NDCC is held annually over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend and in 2020 the Kelley School will host the 9th annual competition on January 17-18, 2020. The NDCC team chosen to represent the Tippie College of Business will be a team of four students who exhibit a passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion in their academic and professional interests. Tippie students will apply individually at the link below. You will then hear back from the Selection Committee after all applicants have been initially reviewed. Students will be selected based off of demonstrated interest in competition, leadership, and involvement experience. The team can have no more than one Senior and at least two members must come from an underrepresented student background. Application extension deadline is Friday, September 27th at 3:00PM.

Corporate partners also have the opportunity to recruit students by judging the case competition, presenting workshops, and participating in the networking reception. Undergraduate students from institutions across the United States will be able connect with the event’s corporate partners throughout the weekend. Student who compete in the competition will:

  • Have provided meals, lodging, and travel expenses to Indiana University in Bloomington, IN (flight and ground travel)

  • Network with other talented students from across the country
