View spring/summer courses and start planning with Schedule Builder on MyUI today!

It’s already time to start thinking about spring registration!

As of today, you can view the spring and summer course schedules in MyUI.   Schedule Builder is also open for planning your courses.

Spring registration will run from November 7th – December 2nd.

Summer registration will run from March 6th-10th.

Wondering when your registration date/time might be for spring?  View the Registrar’s rules for registration priority here.  You’ll get your exact date and time towards the end of October.

Happy planning!

Early Registration starts today! Are you ready?

Fall 2022 early registration runs from April 11th-22nd.   Are you ready?

Here are four important questions to consider to be sure you are ready to register:

  1. Do you need to meet with an advisor prior to registration for authorization?  You can schedule an appointment through MyUI.
  2. Do you meet all the prerequisites for your fall courses?  You can check that in MyUI through these easy steps:
    • Login to MyUI
    • Search for a course you plan to take in the fall
    • Click into any section of that course.  There will be a message in the “Prerequisites” field that tells you whether or not you meet the prereqs.
    • Find out more about prerequisites HERE.
  3. Do you have all course permissions that you need for your fall schedule?
    • If you are a Tippie student who cannot yet declare your major but plan to start major courses in the fall, your advisor will need to give you permission for those.
  4. Do you have a few preferred schedules saved in Schedule Builder?
    • Schedule Builder is the best way to be sure you do meet all the requirements for your courses.  If you don’t have the prerequisites or don’t have permission for major courses, you’ll be blocked when building schedules.
    • Test out Schedule Builder well before your registration date to be sure you won’t be blocked from any courses at your registration time!

Best of luck with your planning!

Planning courses for spring? Try our new fillable major sheets.

As a business or pre-business student, you’re probably familiar with our planning sheets, or major sheets, which are our detailed guides to completing all requirements for each of our six majors.

We have now launched fillable pdf versions of those majors sheets, plus a new one for Direct & Standard Admit students, which is not major-specific.  These allow you to keep track of which courses you have left, to add up your hours remaining, and to create a typed course plan.

Both standard and fillable major sheets are accessible here.

Pro tip: The fillable major sheets work best when you (1) download the pdf, (2) save it to you computer, and (3) open the pdf in Adobe.  We created a quick video to show you those steps.  We recommend you watch that quickly and then download the sheet of your choice.

Happy planning!

How to Add or Drop Classes This Week

The following add/drop rules apply from Monday, August 31 – Friday, September 4.  This information is provided as an overview.  The Registrar’s Office publishes all policies related to adds and drops.  The add process is different for fall 2020 to reduce the need to obtain signatures or visit the UI Service Center.   Please see the Registrar’s website for the full policies.

The processes below relate to semester-length courses:

Tippie students enrolled in first 2 semesters at UI and all Pre-Business students

Add – with change of registration form or by gathering all permissions by email and emailing them to registrar@uiowa.edu.  Signatures or email permissions must be obtained from instructor and advisor.  If using the form, scan and send to registrar@uiowa.edu or take it to the UI Service Center at 2700 UCC (email is strongly preferred). Deadline is Friday, September 4 at 4:30pm.  After this date, add can only occur with approval of Dean’s representative of the college offering the course.

Drop – process is initiated in MyUI.  Authorization of advisor must be obtained.  Athletes and international students may require additional authorizations.  Drop can be completed in MyUI after authorization(s) obtained.  Course will be removed from transcript (no “W” grade will appear) if drop is completed by 11:59pm on Friday, September 4.  Authorizations must be requested by 4:00pm on Friday, September  4.

Tippie students enrolled in 3rd or later semester at UI

Add – with change of registration form or by obtaining permission by email and emailing it to registrar@uiowa.edu.  Signature or email permission must be obtained from instructor only.

Authorization of advisor is not required. Athletes and international students may require authorizations.  Course will be removed from transcript (no “W” grade will appear) if drop is completed by 11:59pm on Friday, September 4.  Authorizations (if needed) must be requested by 4:00pm on Friday, September 4.

Courses shorter than a full semester may have different add/drop deadlines.  See the Registrar’s Course Deadline Lookup for specific deadlines for each course.

Please reach out to your advisor with questions you have about adding and dropping!

Advised in Tippie? Your advisor is offering a weekly drop-in hour

We have enjoyed connecting with many of you already and look forward to working with all of our advisees this semester!

In addition to scheduling a 30-minute appointment in MyUI, you have a new option this fall to visit your advisor for a quick chat at their weekly drop-in advising hour.

This Zoom drop-in hour is only open to assigned advisees.

You can find your advisor’s day, time and Zoom link on the UPO Contact Us page.

Drop-ins are for questions that likely take 5-10 minutes.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Grading selection change form

It is possible change your grading selection (from grade to P/N or P/N to grade) by using new forms on the Tippie and CLAS websites.  Please wait until you can view your final grades to complete the form.  This reduces the likelihood of having to complete the form more than once.  Final grades should be posted by May 21 or 22.

Looking for extra support before finals in Micro, Macro or Stats for Biz? Tippie Learning Coaches are tutoring virtually

As you head into your final weeks of Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, or Stats for Business, get additional support from our Tippie Learning Coaches.  They are tutoring virtually now through the end of the semester.  It’s a great way to review content and get specific questions answered.

Drop deadline is Friday, May 8

The drop deadline for semester-long classes is this Friday, May 8.

The drop deadline normally occurs in the 10th week of the semester, but this extended date was provided to better serve students in the unique circumstances of this semester.

For this semester only, the drop deadline is also the deadline to withdraw from your entire Iowa schedule.  More information about that is here.  If you are considering a complete withdrawal, please reach out to your academic advisor as soon as possible.

What is the drop deadline?

  • The drop deadline is the date by which you can drop a course without seeking Dean’s permission.  You need to fully complete the drop of a course in MyUI by 11:59pm on Friday, May 8.
  • After this day, a drop may only be processed with a Dean’s authorization, which requires a petition showing extraordinary circumstances.  Academic performance is not considered an extraordinary cause for dropping a course after the drop deadline.
  • Courses that last for less than a full semester likely have different drop deadlines.  Please see the Registrar’s Course Calendar for specific course dates.

Be sure to get permissions early if you need them!
When you initiate the drop process for your course in MyUI, you will also be told if you need permission(s) to drop the course (such as advisor or ISSS).  These permissions, if required, must be requested by 4:00pm on Friday, May 8.

Questions?  Please reach out to your academic advisor this week with questions about dropping.

Pass/Nonpass: Important Information and Updates

Important reminders and updates about the Pass/Nonpass grading option this semester:

  1. The deadline to make your P/NP decisions is THIS Friday, May 8th at 11:59pm.  You make your selections on MyUI.
  2. There WILL be a process for you to change your decision after you see your final grade.  The UPO is developing a form that will be on the Tippie website for students to go back after their final grade is posted to either switch to the grade OR switch to the P/NP.
    • Please do not wait to see your final grade to make your decision.  Make your decision by the May 8 deadline with the information you have at that point, and only complete the form if you find this was not the correct decision for you.
    • The form to request a change should be submitted by Tuesday, May 26.

Other P/NP reminders:

  • Tippie’s FAQ page is your best resource for many questions about P/NP grading for Tippie students.
  • The University created a helpful guide to making your selection.
  • C- or higher is a Pass on the P/NP scale.
  • You have a GPA calculator on MyUI.

If you have questions on P/N, please review the links in this post. If your questions are not answered here, please reach out to your academic advisor.

Thinking of electing Pass/Nonpass? Review these resources to help with your decision.

The feature in MyUI to select Pass/Nonpass for each of your spring courses is now operational in MyUI.

As you decide whether to take your courses for A-F grades or Pass/Nonpass this semester, we have two important resources to help you:

  • Tippie’s new FAQ page on Pass/Nonpass
  • This campus-wide flyer with guidance on when to choose Pass/Nonpass

Please refer to these resources and then reach out to your advisor if you have additional questions.

The deadline to select Pass/Nonpass is Friday, May 8.

And remember – you must earn a C- or better to earn a Pass!
