Mitch Plimmer is a successful attorney with Bradley & Riley PC.
While they have pursued diverse careers, all four panelists have found great value in what they learned in Iowa’s economics department. They will discuss how their training in economics helped prepare them for success, give advice on how to prepare for a successful career, and take questions from audience members.

DEADLINE EXTENDED — Compete for $22,000 in prizes at the National Diversity Case Competition
The Kelley School of Business (Indiana University) hosts the 11th annual National Diversity Case Competition (NDCC) as a premier event that brings together top-level, diverse talent from colleges and universities across the country. The two-day event includes a networking reception and dinner, case competition, and workshops. The event will include 40+ teams from across the country as they compete for $22,000 in cash prizes during MLK weekend of January 14-15, 2022.
It is their intention that this year’s event be held in-person. For more information about NDCC visit their website.

In January 2021, the Tippie team won third place during the competition. Read more about the team’s achievement.
The NDCC team chosen to represent Tippie will be a team of four students who exhibit a passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion in their academic and professional interests. Students will be selected based off of demonstrated interest in competition, leadership, and involvement experience. The team can have no more than one Senior and at least two members must come from an underrepresented student background.
You will then hear back from the Selection Committee after all applicants have been initially reviewed. Application deadline extended to Thursday, October 21 at 3:00PM.
Student who compete in the competition will:
- Prepare competition material and practice presenting with Frank Center staff
- Find opportunities to engage with 14+ corporate partners and recruiters to make career connections
- Network with other talented students from across the country
- Compete in a case competition with over 40+ universities to win $22,000 in cash prizes

Early registration will run from Monday, November 8th – Friday, November 19th. You will be able to see your registration date and time in MyUI in a few weeks.

Want to get admitted to Tippie?
For students seeking spring 2022 admission to Tippie there are only four easy steps:
- Review the admission criteria, and see your advisor or contact Lindsey if you have any questions.
- Apply to Tippie by Friday, October 1 via the Change of College Application on MyUI.
- Complete the Pre-Admission Requirement (PAR). The Pre-Admission Requirement (PAR) consists of a mandatory ICON module to be released after October 1. Admissions will cancel the applications of students who fail to complete the Pre-Admission Requirement (PAR).
- Ensure transcripts for any transfer courses are received by the Office of Admissions by January 10.
Note: courses taken during the winter session may not be used to meet admission criteria for spring.

- Use preventative actions (mask, social distance, wash hands)

New and returning Tippie transfer students are invited to a welcome lunch THIS Thursday, September 2 in S401 PBB from 11:30 am-12:20 pm. In addition to a free lunch, Associate Dean Charles Keene will give a welcome, you will learn from a business career advisors about career resources and internships, and advisors will share some important advising information.

You are able to add courses in MyUI without any permissions, as long as there are seats. You can still add yourself to waitlists, and they remain active until 11:59pm on Sunday, August 29th.

Class of 2024 Welcome Event
There will be a Class of 2024 Welcome Event on this Friday, August 27 in Hubbard Park from 6:30-11:00 pm! There will be free food trucks, music provided by DJ NYJ (our amazing Dance Marathon DJ), yard games, photo opportunities, a movie co-hosted by Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) and Campus Activities Board (CAB), snacks, and so much more.

End of semester, end of term
Well, we are almost there. Its finals week for an entire academic year with COVID-19. Its been a year that has challenged us all to different degrees.
I know some of you have really struggled with motivation in the online environment and perhaps even lost family and friends to the virus. To those of you, I am so sorry for your loss.
Yet others were more inconvenienced than struck with tragedy. Whatever your situation, I hope that you can reflect on this year and feel a sense of accomplishment. You’ve made it through a global pandemic with all of its downstream challenges. I wish I could congratulate you face-to-face with a handshake and free snacks. Especially in a pandemic, we all could use free snacks.
While many of you know, I also want to let you know that this year marks an ending for me just as it does for those of you graduating. After 7 years in my position (including 2 full “terms” plus another year to help with COVID planning), I am stepping down and returning to a teaching and research role. The Tippie College of Business, aided by a committee of faculty and staff with input from student leaders, is searching for my replacement as I write this. We hope an appointment will be made by the end of this month. The program and the office is in great hands, whoever the replacement turns out to be, because of the remarkable staff, students, and faculty leaders we have here.
It has been an honor serving as your Associate Dean, and working with student leadership in particular. I mentioned this to the Tippie Senators, and I will repeat it again here — many of our best ideas for how to improve Tippie come from YOU. Your energy and insight are catalysts for change in our college and, frankly, in our broader communities as well. I encourage you to keep using your voice to propose solutions to challenges that we face, big and small. You may not always be met with agreement but you will learn in the process and you can be confident that you are doing the right thing by speaking up.
In that vein, I’d welcome any parting suggestions or feedback you have, positive or negative. Email is usually best, but if you’d like to chat, email and we can set up a time (kenneth-g-brown@uiowa.edu). I admire each of you for your persistence, as imperfect as it may have been at times. Perfect should never be our goal; we should strive to be true to ourselves and make progress making ourselves and our world a little better every day.
Finally, I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn with you. I have learned so much working this in role. I remain committed to Tippie, University of Iowa, and the state of Iowa and will use my voice to continue to make a stronger, more supportive, and more inclusive community.
Best wishes to you as you finish finals and head into the summer months and toward whatever next challenge awaits you. I wish you health, happiness, and peace of mind that you are in the right place, doing the right things taking steps toward a better tomorrow.

Attention Graduates- Hawkeye Farewell on the Pentacrest is this week!
This week is an opportunity for graduates to celebrate their final days as students at the University of Iowa. Distribution of commencement materials will occur for Spring 2021 degree applicants. Professional photo opportunities and the chance to snap a photo with Graduation Herky will be additional activities to enjoy. Activities will occur on the Pentacrest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The Spring 2021 College of Business commencement ceremony will be live on Saturday, May 15 at 5pm CST.
Dean Amy Kristof-Brown and Tippie alum Kyle Krause (Founder and CEO of the Krause Group) will deliver messages to students and Jessica Tse will be the student speaker.
