YAB Summer Mentor Program- applications due April 9

The Young Alumni Board (YAB) Summer Mentor Program is for Tippie students who are interested in being connected with a Tippie alum during a six-week virtual mentoring program in Summer 2021. The mentor serves as a professional resource and helps you to build your professional network in your industry and/or city.  Mentoring resources and guidelines will be provided to both the mentor and mentee. Matches to students are primarily based on industry interest and where applicable, in the same city. Even if you don’t have an internship this summer, you are welcome to apply.

Below is a bit more information about the program:

Who are the mentors? Tippie alums working in the mentee’s target industry and, where applicable, in the same city of their internship / volunteer opportunity.

How does it help? Provides access to the Hawkeye community outside Iowa City as well as insight into careers and professional opportunities.

How does it work? The alum mentor will contact the mentee at the beginning of summer and will meet with them at least three times virtually throughout the six-week program

How big of a time commitment is it? We will provide guidelines and resources in the program. Mentors and mentees will be asked to participate in a kick-off call, provide feedback via a mid-summer survey, and attend the program wrap-up call at the beginning of August. We will request that each alum connects with their mentee at least three times during the mentoring program.

How do I sign up? Apply here. The application period is open until April 9. You will receive your mentoring match via email by April 30.

Mask Compliance and Potential Closure of BizHub 4th Floor

Mask Compliance and Potential Closure of BizHub 4th Floor

Tippie and university staff routinely monitor compliance with the University mask requirement, and while slips have been noticed and documented all over campus, the 4th floor of Pappajohn Business Building is our biggest trouble spot. Non-compliance rates are hovering at 1 in 5, which is 2-3x higher than anywhere else in the building.

If the mask compliance rate in this space does not improve, we will close the space on March 1 for a week or longer.

We recognize that closure is not the perfect solution, and it reduces the amount of available study space. We will continue to monitor and remind students including asking students to leave if they are repeat offenders. But that particular space encourages falling back on old habits, and we have not been able to improve compliance, yet. To keep the Tippie community healthy, we need to do better or we will close the space to reduce the risk of community spread.

A few suggestions as we work together to keep our community safe:

If you are asked to get an approved face covering, or make sure it covers your mouth and nose, please do not be offended. We are following best available guidance from the Center for Disease Control for stopping the spread, and acting to enforce both University and Iowa City policy.
If you ask someone else to use an approved covering, please do so politely. We all forget and make mistakes; in that spirit, a gentle request is best.
