Apply for the (Virtual) National Diversity Case Competition Team by October 20th

The Kelley School of Business (Indiana University) – National Diversity Case Competition (NDCC) is a premier event that brings together top-level, diverse talent from colleges and universities across the country. The two-day event includes a networking reception and dinner, case competition, and workshops. The 10th annual event will include 42 teams from across the country as they compete for $20,000 in cash prizes during the weekend of January 15-16. Due to COVID-19, this annual event will be held virtually. For more information about NDCC visit their website.

The NDCC team chosen to represent the Tippie College of Business will be a team of four students who exhibit a passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion in their academic and professional interests. Tippie students will apply individually at the link below. You will then hear back from the Selection Committee after all applicants have been initially reviewed. Students will be selected based off of demonstrated interest in competition, leadership, and involvement experience. The team can have no more than one Senior and at least two members must come from an underrepresented student background. Application extension deadline is Tuesday, October 20 at 3:00PM.

Student who compete in the competition will:

  • Prepare competition material and practice presenting with Frank Center staff
  • Find opportunities to engage with corporate partners and recruiters to make career connections

    • Anxiety Toolbox (3-week skills-based workshop to manage anxiety), and
    • Getting Unstuck (3-week skills-based workshop to manage symptoms of depression).

Last Thursday, you should have received your October edition of Career Center Connection! Be sure to read through those newsletters for lots of important updates and resources that will help get you on your way to your dream job and internship.

As we are coming up quickly to our Thanksgiving break, be sure to take advantage of all of the employer-hosted opportunities that allows you to connect with recruiters and employers in a more personal way.

  1. Stand out among others by looking the part and dressing appropriately for the business and career you want to be in.
  2. Be sure to prepare some good questions beforehand to ask the employer.
  3. Make sure to have your resume on point in case there is an opportunity to share it.
  4. Send a followup thank you to the hosts after the session so that your name will be more most memorable for upcoming opportunities.

USS aims to connect underrepresented undergraduates exploring careers in environmental sustainability with University of Iowa faculty who are passionate about the field. Accounting Major Writing Assessment Window is October 5 – 12th on ICON – Check out more details here.

Accounting Major Writing Assessment

The writing assessment window is October 5-12 on ICON. Students who plan to enroll in accounting major courses (junior-level courses) in the spring 2021 semester should take the assessment within this window. If you earn a B- grade or higher (or a P grade in spring 2020) in BUS:3000 Business Communication and Protocol or have previously passed the Accounting Department writing assessment, then you have met this particular requirement for access to accounting major courses. Students must have either completed or be currently enrolled in ACCT:2200 Managerial Accounting (or course equivalent) to be eligible to take the writing assessment. Register for the assessment and read helpful information at the accounting writing assessment website. Working Internationally: Global Business and Communications

This course will consider global careers through a variety of perspectives.  Whether you want to be an entrepreneur or work for a multinational corporation, this course is designed to give you a sense of how you might embark on a global career. This course will feature presentations and panels by professionals in business and communications (including UI alumni) at various stages in their careers.  Additional presentations will provide insight into how to search for international internships and jobs, how to prepare tailored resumes and cover letters and how to conduct informational interviews. The active, interactive and reflective components of the course will assist students in identifying and building networks with their peers and with professionals.  The course readings and assignments are designed to be applied and used in real life.

Working Internationally: Global Business and Communications

  • STEP 1: Log into your Handshake account.
  • STEP 2: Enter or Update Profile Information.
  • STEP 3: Upload Your Resume.  (Click on your name in the upper right hand corner and then “Documents” and “Add New Document”.)
  • STEP 4: To apply to a mock interview, go to “Jobs” and type “Mock” into the keyword search area.
  • STEP 5: Click on the title of the mock interview you are interested in and then click “Apply”.
  • STEP 6: Select the Interview Time.  Click “Submit”. Make sure the resume you would like the employer to see is the one that appears in the drop down box.
