Honors Ambassadors Coffee & Cookies

Beginning tomorrow–Tuesday, 9/28–come and join our honors ambassadors for informal honors and research conversations. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays (alternating every other week), hear from current students about their honors experience and learn how you can get connected to more Tippie resources. Coffee and cookies will be provided at each session! We hope to see you in C106 PBB.

Thinking Honors in the Major? Enroll in BUS:1999 Intro to Business Research this fall

Interested in completing an Honors research project to graduate with Honors in the Major at Tippie?  Your first step is completing BUS:1999 Intro to Research in Business.

BUS:1999 Introduction to Research in Business
Wednesdays, 9:30 – 10:45am
First 10 weeks of semester
1 hour, S/U business elective credit

This course will introduce you to research in the College of Business and prepare you for your thesis project. You’ll develop possible thesis questions, meet research faculty in all of Tippie’s departments, and work together in a seminar style to ensure your questions about the thesis process are answered.

When should I take it?

BUS:1999 must be completed prior to beginning your two-semester thesis project.  For most students, that will be your junior year.  It can be taken in either fall or spring.

Stipends available for research projects with faculty mentors (ICRU fellowships) – app deadline approaching

The Iowa Center for Research by Undergraduates (ICRU) invites applications for their summer and academic year funding.
Summer application deadline is March 6.  Academic year application deadline is March 27.

Each year, students and their mentors are invited to apply for an ICRU Research Fellowship for either the academic year or the summer.  Scholarship funding for selected applications is in the amount of  $2,000 (for about 5-10 hours of work per week) for the academic year or $2,500 (for about 20 hours/week of work) during the summer.

Are you curious about graduating with Honors at Tippie?  Do you want to know if it will fit into your graduation plan?

Join Tippie’s Honors advisor and Honors Ambassadors for a drop-in info session this Tuesday.  We’ll have cookies, coffee, and information about graduating with Honors at Tippie. It’s a great chance to learn the basics and ask specific questions about your timeline and qualifications.

Honors in the Major info – new way to schedule appointments

Would you like to learn more about graduating with Honors in the Major at Tippie?  Tippie’s Honors advisor and Honors Ambassadors have set up two easy ways to get info this semester:

  1. Drop-in “coffee and cookies” sessions, where you can come in anytime during an hour to get questions answered.  This is great if you’d like a general overview or are curious about learning more.
  2. Scheduled 15-minute one-on-one advising, where we can look specifically at your graduation plan and see how Honors in the  Major can fit.

2019 Mary Thomas Prappas Ethics Essay Winners Announced!

The Judith R. Frank Business Communication Center is pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 Mary Thomas Prappas Business Ethics Essay Competition. 

1st Place ($3000 Prize) – Xinwen Zhang 

2nd Place ($2000 Prize) – Maggie Norland

3rd Place ($1000 Prize) – Zahra Aalabdulrasul

Top three essays were chosen from a pool of finalists, and judged by members of the local business community. The essay prompt can be found here.

 

About Mary Thomas Prappas:
Mary Thomas Prappas was raised in the Cedar Rapids community. She was the first in her family to earn a college degree, graduating from Iowa in 1949. Mary was one of 35 women who earned a business degree that year. Mary met her husband Dempsey in 1948, settling in Iowa City in their later years. With Dempsey’s passing in 2015, Mary lost a lifetime partner and the university an avid champion of ethical legal and business practice.

Take this first step to be on track to graduate with Honors in your Major.

Enrolling in BUS:1999 Introduction to Research in Business is the first required step towards Honors in the Major at Tippie and should be taken at least three semesters prior to graduation.
