Summer Internship Opportunities

The Institute for International Business (IIB) has been very busy putting together internship programs for Summer 2022. Applications are being accepted through April 15 so please don’t delay in applying for one of these great opportunities!

The African Business Innovators internship is a virtual internship where a UI student is paired with an African company owned by an alum of The University of Iowa Mandela Washington Fellowship program. These interns acquire skill of cross-cultural competency and communication and begin to recognize some of the macro business issues of globalization. Community health, social enterprises, technology, and agriculture are among the most common fields the businesses cover, and the internships are on varied areas; customer discovery, defining business models, developing a marketing plan, conducting market research, and more. The internship is 8-10 weeks during the summer, and interns can expect to work 10-20 hours per week. This internship is guided by Tippie faculty via a weekly Canvas course and is eligible for Tippie RISE.

To Apply: the survey for ABI application intake is on the IIB internship website.

The Iowa International Business Internship is a compensated internship designed for students here in Iowa to get a first step toward familiarity with international business. Iowa companies such as Simply Organic Spices, Lil’ Drug Store, HON Furniture and SwineTech Inc. (owned by Tippie’s own alum!) are all offering paid positions ($14.50 unless otherwise noted in the position description – one is paying $18!). The internship positions include Operations, Marketing, International Trade, and Product Management, and more. The internship is 8-10 weeks long and students can expect to work around 20 hours per week. Some internships are online, some in person, and some are hybrid – see the position descriptions for more details.

To Apply: Go to the IIB internship website and read the position descriptions until you find one that interests you. You can then send a resume and cover letter for each position to Jayne Meacham (jayne-meacham@uiowa.edu) as listed on the website and description. Your application materials will be sent to the company who will conduct their own interviews and hire as they see fit.
