Position Descriptions

President

  • Create & send all chapter correspondence
  • Run chapter & executive board meetings
  • Plan all professional trips
  • Regularly meet with advisor Jason Glass to plan events & provide updates
  • Attend all mandatory University & Tippie student organization trainings
  • Book meeting rooms for each semester
  • Create executive meeting agendas
  • Attend monthly Tippie presidential round tables
  • Assist other executives as needed

Vice President

  • Perform the duties of the President in the event of the President’s absence, disability, or at the President’s request
  • Temporarily assume the duties of President if the office becomes vacant until a permanent replacement is elected
  • Serve as the Spring Vice President, transitioning into the full-term President position the following academic year
  • Plan and oversee the Spring Professional Trip
  • Assist the President in planning and executing chapter initiatives
  • Attend chapter and executive board meetings
  • Support other executive officers as needed

VP of Chapter Events

  • Schedule 2 semesters’ worth of speakers & companies for the chapter meeting while communicating with other executive members 
  • Pick up parking passes & gifts for each speaker from the Management Office 
  • Introduce speakers during meetings
  • Send calendar reminders/thank you emails to all speakers who donate their time to SHRM.
  • Schedule outside activities for the group, such as reservations for dinner outings, etc.
  • Assist other executives as needed.

Treasurer

  • Collect member dues each semester
  • Work closely with the Student Organization Business Office (SOBO) to maintain the SHRM account & fill out necessary forms for purchases.
  • Apply for funding when necessary.
  • Track revenue & expenses
  • Track all payments to SHRM from members in a detailed log
  • Order & pick up food for each meeting 
  • Assist other executives as needed

VP of Membership

  • Recruit new members to our organization & attend Tippie Fest
  • Send out campus-wide emails & communicate with professors to speak with their classes about SHRM
  • Create & maintain an attendance list each semester
  • Keep track of member eligibility for the National SHRM Student Membership
  • Create & report on mid-year survey to assess membership satisfaction
  • Assist other executives as needed

VP of Marketing

  • Take pictures at meetings & events to post on SHRM’s social media sites
  • Post reminders of meetings on social media sites
  • Create marketing materials for SHRM events (flyers, Instagram story posts, etc.)
  • Create an annual infographic for the Tippie organization contest
  • Assist the VP of Membership in recruitment by implementing innovative & creative marketing initiatives
  • Add members to UI SHRM’s Facebook alum page after graduation
  • Update the SHRM website through Tippie
  • Design t-shirts/stickers/etc. throughout the year
  • Assist other executives as needed

VP of Fundraising

  • Reach out to local businesses to sponsor meals
  • Identify, create & organize fundraising endeavors
  • Identify & organize paid/non-paid volunteer opportunities
  • Establish & maintain relationships with other Tippie organizations
  • Assist other executives as needed
