We want to remind you of the ways the Pomerantz Career Center can be assisting you as you prepare for graduation;

1) Meet with a Career Advisor –– You can meet with a Career Advisor who specializes in an area you want to pursue– simply schedule an appointment through MyUI and click on “Advising Appointment”. By meeting with an Advisor we can help you create a plan for finding a job or continuing education if you are considering that. We will assist you whether you are starting your search, choosing graduate programs or in the process of negotiating a salary offer – we’re here to help!

-Personal Statement review and grad school application tips

2019 Mary Thomas Prappas Ethics Essay Winners Announced!

The Judith R. Frank Business Communication Center is pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 Mary Thomas Prappas Business Ethics Essay Competition. 

1st Place ($3000 Prize) – Xinwen Zhang 

2nd Place ($2000 Prize) – Maggie Norland

3rd Place ($1000 Prize) – Zahra Aalabdulrasul

Top three essays were chosen from a pool of finalists, and judged by members of the local business community. The essay prompt can be found here.

 

About Mary Thomas Prappas:
Mary Thomas Prappas was raised in the Cedar Rapids community. She was the first in her family to earn a college degree, graduating from Iowa in 1949. Mary was one of 35 women who earned a business degree that year. Mary met her husband Dempsey in 1948, settling in Iowa City in their later years. With Dempsey’s passing in 2015, Mary lost a lifetime partner and the university an avid champion of ethical legal and business practice.

Diversity and Business Ethics Case Competition in Boulder, CO (APPLY by December 10th)

Participate on a case competition team and put your business knowledge to the test! Compete in the Diversity and Business Ethics Case Competition this upcoming February 21-22, 2020 in Boulder, CO.

The Diversity and Business Ethics Case Competition (DBECC) is hosted by the Leeds School of Business at University of Colorado, Boulder. DBECC is an opportunity for students to gain real world experience while competing in a case challenge focused on diversity and ethics in a business setting. Their aim is to bring together diverse and well-rounded students from business schools across the country. Learn more at their website.

  • Prepare competition material and practice presenting with Frank Center staff

Tippie Toast to Graduation, December 12

Graduating seniors are invited to a Tippie Toast to Graduation on Thursday, December 12, from 1:30-2:30 in the Howe Galleria. Cake and sparkling juice will be served as we toast to all you have accomplished during your time as a Tippie student. Associate Dean Ken Brown and graduating senior, Dani Pacheco, will give a toast at 2:00 p.m., so be sure to be there!

Every senior in attendance will:

Receive a commemorative graduation gift
Be entered to win several prizes, including a Tippie diploma frame (valued at $165) and sets of Tippie pint glasses. You must be present to win.
Have the opportunity to preview and order NEW Tippie merchandise

International Education Week

Happy International Education Week, Hawkeyes!

This is a week to celebrate international educational exchange!  The Tippie College of Business is home to international students and scholars, as well as students who participate in study abroad and internship abroad opportunities.  Business is global, and as such, Tippie is too.

Take this first step to be on track to graduate with Honors in your Major.

Enrolling in BUS:1999 Introduction to Research in Business is the first required step towards Honors in the Major at Tippie and should be taken at least three semesters prior to graduation.

This course introduces students to research in the College of Business.  Taught in a seminar style, the course will include discussion and exploration of business research topics and methods, helping you discern your own research interests and develop thesis questions.

Got an internship next semester? Don’t forget to register for BUS:3100 to satisfy Tippie RISE.

The Tippie business internship course (BUS:3100) helps you get more out of your internship experience through brief, guided activities you complete during your time as an intern. The course is intentionally designed to help you think more deeply about your internship and connect it to your academic interests and future career decisions. You must register for an internship course in order for it to count for Tippie RISE.

Enrollment & eligibility criteria
Internship position is clearly defined and related to your academics and/or professional goals
Job responsibilities are similar to those of entry level employees with a bachelor’s degree; tasks should require critical thinking and complex problem solving
Supervision is provided by a professional with expertise and a related educational or professional background
Internship must last for the majority of the academic term in which you are enrolled
You must work at the internship numerous days each week, full or part-time

Tippie Tutoring Position Open – Statistics for Business – Spring 2020 Start

Tippie Learning Coaches are looking to hire one tutor for Micro to start in the spring!  Tutors earn $10/hour and work an average of 4 hours each week, from 5-7 pm on Mondays & Wednesdays.
