Are you thinking about law school?

Registration is now open for the free Iowa Law Expo on Wednesday, October 2, 2019, on the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City, IA.

(Students are not required to attend all events. Please participate in the day to the extent you are able.)

The Law Expo includes:

·        A law school fair with representatives from more than 90 law schools around the country

·        A tour of the UI College of Law

·        Breakout sessions for students

The Law Expo is an excellent opportunity to learn more about law school and the legal profession. Prospective law students from throughout the Midwest are encouraged to attend this free event. Register now.


Iowa Law Expo Schedule:

8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. – Student Check-In in Hubbard Commons at the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU)

9:00 – 10:45 a.m. – UI College of Law Visit (Group will depart from the IMU at 8:30 a.m.)

10:30 – 11:00 a.m. or 11:15 – 11:45 a.m. – Law Expo 101: Maximize your time at the Iowa Law Expo

11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. –  MAPLA Caravan Law School Fair: 90+ law schools from around the country

Actuarial Science, Risk Management and Analytics Fair – October 2nd

Join us Wednesday, October 2, 2019 – 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Second Floor Ballroom, Iowa Memorial Union!

If you’re interested in numbers and working with big data, or assessing risk this fair may be for you. Almost 30 employers will be joining us for this event!

Work Visa Options After Graduation

Experienced immigration attorneys David Gluckman and Jonathan Moore of McCandlish Holton will discuss work visa options for international students after
graduation, including Optional Practical Training (OPT) and H-1B. They will present practical advice on job search strategies and how to deal with the H-1B quota, as well
as options other than H-1B for those who qualify.

Suit-Up Event hosted by JC Penney – Sunday, Sept 15

JC Penney at Coral Ridge Mall is hosting Suit Up for UI students on Sunday, September 15th from 6-9 p.m. to assist students in getting clothing at a discounted price for professional trips, presentations, interviews and career fairs other needs.

This is a special event sponsored by JC Penney that open exclusively to students at the University of Iowa to purchase career dress/casual apparel at up to 60% off. Transportation is available by shuttle bus that will be at the IMU beginning at 5:30 pm and returning at 8:30 and 9:30 pm. Please bring your Student ID for admission into the store. Be sure to RSVP on Handshake under Events.

Student Employment Job Fair – Wed. August 28th 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

The Fall Student Employment Job Fair (August 28, 2019) from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM in the IMU Main Lounge! This year, we anticipate 20 or more employers in attendance, with a number of them interviewing that day in the IMU.

Some final reminders before the fair:

* Bring your work availability schedule. Be aware not only your class schedule but any other class-related or volunteer obligations so that you know when you are available to work.

* Come dressed as you are – if you have something a little nicer to wear that day that’s always great to make the best first impression.

* Be prepared to complete a job application or provide a resume to employers. Bring contact information for references. Pomerantz Career Center staff will be available for resume help. If you are applying for Work-Study jobs, bring your Work-Study Verification from MyUI. You must be able to verify employment eligibility within three days of employment. A list of acceptable verification documents can be viewed at hr.uiowa.edu/immigration/i-9-information. Staff from the Office of Financial Aid will be available at the Fair to answer questions you may have.

* Research the employers and job opportunities before the Job Fair. Review the list of registered employers at https://careers.uiowa.edu/student-employment-job-fair

* Be aware of the Student Job Fair hours of 11a.m.-3p.m. If you have class during that time period and can’t attend, be sure to check out jobs on Handshake.
