Iowa MBA Alumni Start-up Gains Momentum

Impakt Athletics sits at the intersection of workflow and analytics and features tools that collect, organize and analyze information proactively to aid in decision-making.  Co-founded by Iowa MBA alum Zac McQuistan (’07) and Jason Brescia, Impakt builds digital tools to empower football coaches to prepare for games more efficiently.  They recently took their business to the national level by competing in, and winning, the Seed-Stage Track at the 2017 MIT Sloan Startup Competition.  Zac and Jason have already met with over 40 NFL, college and CFL football teams and plan to meet with even more following their first-place showing at the “Super Bowl of Analytics”.  Read more about what Zac, Jason, and Impakt Athletics are doing to transform the game of football with the power of analytics.

Spring Trip Recap

Thirty-five Iowa MBA students, along with a group of faculty and staff, recently took a career exploration trip to Chicago to visit with company executives and mingle with alumni during a Tippie Table Talks event.  Companies visited were: United Airlines, Salesforce, Cognizant Consulting, and the Chicago Bulls.  Students were able to gain insight into multiple industries in the Chicago area because of several of our gracious alumni hosts.  Thank you to the many alumni who hosted, met with, and supported our group during the trip.

It’s Job-Search Season

We need your help identifying MBA-level, full-time or contract-to-hire opportunities for our students. On the full-time side, we are looking for roles that are open to both domestic and international students, with an emphasis on international opportunities since the H1B hiring landscape has become increasingly challenging.  We would appreciate any leads on finance-related, marketing, or business analytics roles.

Lastly, an update worth noting again: our Business Analytics Academy is STEM designated. With this designation comes an increased amount of OPT (work authorization) for our international students, should they be hired full-time in a STEM designated role.

Please email cindy-meis@uiowa.edu with any questions or follow-up.

Covve App for Iowa Alumni

During the May 2016 GLO trip to Italy and Greece, students met with various companies and professionals to learn about business in the region. One company is a start-up in Greece called Covve, which is described as “the ultimate professional address book.” We’re excited to announce a partnership with Covve for our Iowa MBA alumni that lets you try the app for free.

What is Covve?

Covve is designed for professionals who understand the value of their contacts and relationships.

One of the main features of Covve is that it allows you to connect with contacts outside your immediate network. For example: need to find a trusted lawyer in Los Angeles? Simply type that into the app and it will show you which of your contacts have a Los Angeles lawyer in their network. You can then follow-up with your contact and make the request for an introduction, taking it from a cold outreach to a “warm connection.”

In addition, Covve offers many advanced address book features like:
– add missing contact information, dedupe, organize your contacts and even scan your business cards
– help you remember to stay in touch with the people that matter most
– add notes after each call and prepare for the next one
– help you find who can best refer you when you need a foot in the door
– keep your contacts private and secure

Covve for Tippie College of Business Alumni

In partnership with Covve, we’re excited to offer a free 1-year trial of the Professional version of this app to all of our alumni! Simply click here to and follow the instructions. This is a tool we feel will make a considerable difference to the way you can capitalize on our alumni network and your professional contacts in general.
