Henry B. Tippie College of Business
Direct Admission: Effective Summer 2009, highly-qualified high school students who satisfy the following criteria can be admitted directly to the Tippie College of Business.
- You must apply to the University as a pre-business major.
- You must have a composite ACT of 27 or higher and a high school GPA of 3.70 or higher.
- Students directly admitted to the College of Business are eligible to apply to the Tippie Scholars Program (Deadline: February 1).
Accelerated Admission: Pre-business students admitted or readmitted to the University Fall 2007 or after who satisfy the following criteria will be offered accelerated admission.
- Enroll at the University for at least one semester, but no more than three semesters, and earn a minimum of 12 semester hours of University of Iowa credit (with a passing mark) but no more than 59 hours of credit.
- Complete three prerequisite courses; Calculus and Matrix Algebra for Business, Statistics for Business and either Principles of Microeconomics or Principles of Macroeconomics (or their equivalents)
- Earn no grade lower than a C in any prerequisite course required for admission.
- Earn a University of Iowa, cumulative and prerequisite GPA of 2.75 or higher. The prerequisite GPA will be calculated using grades from all applicable course work.
Standard Admission: Admission option for students who have earned at least 60 semester hours of credit and satisfy the following criteria.
- If you are currently enrolled at The University of Iowa, you must apply to the Tippie College of Business by the established deadline
- If you are a transfer student, you must apply to the University of Iowa by established deadline
- You must complete six prerequisite courses (or equivalents) with no grade lower than a C and a prerequisite GPA of 2.75
- You must earn a University of Iowa, cumulative, and prerequisite GPA of 2.75 or higher.
Note: Additional GPA requirement for admission to the accounting major includes a 3.00 University of Iowa and cumulative GPA, 2.75 on all prerequisites with no grade lower than a C and a 2.67 (B-) average in Introduction to Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting.
All admission options require that the applicant has had no prior charges or violations of academic misconduct.
Admission Appeals: Submit your appeal form and documentation to The Undergraduate Program Office. Please complete the form on-line, print it, attach documentation if needed and submit it to the reception desk in C140 PBB. You may also submit your petition electronically to business-undergrad@uiowa.edu. Only students denied admission under Standard Admission may appeal the decision. No appeals are accepted for accelerated or direct admission decisions.
