Tools for Success: Online Resources

The University of Iowa and Tippie School of Management utilize a number of online resources to enhance the student experience.  These resources are geared to augment information distributed in person and in print in your classes, advising and coaching sessions, and in your daily activities.

HawkID
The HawkID is your individual, unique ID used to access electronic services.  Details about the HawkID may be found at:  http://hawkid.uiowa.edu.  From this website you may reset your password, troubleshoot logging problems, and set your password hints.

ISIS (Iowa Student Information System)

ISIS is a multipurpose tool used to register for courses, view up to date University bills, request transcripts and verifications, access/update your student records, track your printing usage and quota, and view/edit your vehicle registration.   You will need your HawkID in order to login to this University site at http://isis.uiowa.edu.

Printing
Registered students receive a $10.00 print credit each spring and fall semester.  The cost to print is $0.05. per side for black and white copies and $0.50 per side for color copies.  Students who are having difficulties printing should go to ISIS to check their print balance.  It is important to always log off of computers when finished using them to prevent others from printing on your account.

Outlook Email
Students may check their email by visiting:  http://email.uiowa.edu.  MBA students use the domain IOWA/HawkID when logging into email.  The Outlook system also includes a personal calendaring system and tasklist.  MHA/MBA students may find that they are initially set up with two email domains.  Please be sure to contact ITS (ITS Help Desk at (319) 384-4357) contact to explain that you are a dual degree student in both programs and ask them to route everything to one domain.  This will prevent you from missing important emails.

ICON (Iowa Courses Online)
ICON, the course management system at The University of Iowa, provides an opportunity for faculty, staff and students to communicate efficiently regarding course materials, upcoming events, assignments, and grade postings. You can access ICON at https://icon.uiowa.edu/.

All full-time MBA students will be enrolled in the MBA Student Services Web Portal in ICON. This site includes a variety of useful information for students at The University of Iowa.  Students may visit the portal to find details on how to select and register for courses, learn more about student organizations, gain access to forms, and review policies and procedure manuals.

Wireless LAN
The Wireless LAN works with any device that supports 802.11b/g wireless connectivity and works across the campus network.  The Cisco client is recommended. However, the Cisco Secure Services client is only available for the Windows XP operating system at this time. Windows Vista users can use the built-in Vista Windows Wireless client to connect to the UI Wireless network.  See http://helpdesk.its.uiowa.edu/wireless/  for information on configuring your device.

File and Web Space
All students will receive 100Mb of file space for academic purposes.  Students may save to the H drive in the ITCs, or upload, download, and delete your files from any computer by visiting http://myfiles.uiowa.edu. Every student also has access to web space while on the University of Iowa campus.  Sign up at: http://myweb.uiowa.edu.

Microsoft Campus Agreement
Students may purchase packages such as Microsoft Office Pro, Publisher, and Visual Studio.Net.  Details may be found at:  http://cs.its.uiowa.edu/software/softwarelistingstudents.shtml.  You may also visit the University Book Store at http://www.book.uiowa.edu/ for additional details.

Amy Kristof-Brown

Amy Kristof-Brown
Professor – Teaches 06N:201 LEAP and 06N:212 Management in Organizations

What do you enjoy most about working with Tippie MBAs? I enjoy working with the Tippie MBAs because they’re at a tipping point in their careers when they’ve decided that a new set of skills is needed in order to make the upward climb.  Whether it’s a new career track or advancement in their previous field, they’re open to learning new sets of skills that will help them succeed in business and life.

What’s your teaching focus or area of research?

Teaching:  Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management and Leadership

Research: Person-Environment Fit, Groups & Teams, Impression Management

Something interesting about Jon: Some interesting or unique things about me:  I have two daughters and am married to another Tippie Professor.  We spend most of our time with the girls and our two miniature schnauzers, Lola and Tessa.  I love musical theater, dance, reading and travel.  I also dabble in fundraising for various organizations.  Originally I’m from Annapolis, MD, and spent most of my growing up time on the east coast, until I moved to Iowa City.

Erin Dougherty

Erin Dougherty
Recruiting Specialist, MBA Career Services

What do you enjoy most about working with Tippie MBAs? As Recruiting Specialist on the Tippie MBA Career Services team, I have the pleasure of working with both students and employers looking to hire our students. I manage all on-campus recruiting events and our online job posting system, as well as assist in corporate development efforts. I most enjoy getting to know each individual student and seeing the growth many of them make throughout the two-year program. The Tippie MBA program is built upon individualization (for students and employers), and we incorporate that objective into our work every day.

Something interesting about Nadia: While I don’t have any unique or peculiar hobbies, I spend most of my free time volunteering in the Iowa City area, reading anything I can get my hands on, and hanging out with my husband.
