Recently, we had the opportunity to visit Warren Buffett at his office in Omaha. Each year Buffet invites several MBA programs to his office for a Q&A session and lunch afterwards. I was lucky enough to ask him a question and the moment before I asked him was one of the most nervous in my life! I managed to get the question off without a problem, credit all the MBA presentations, and Warren gave a great answer. I was amazed at how sharp he was and his willingness to take pictures with all the students there. It was a great experience and one that I wouldn’t have had without Iowa.
I decided to branch out this semester and take several finance classes as well as being a team leader for strategic business consulting. SBC is a great class and is the class that I think all students should take at least once. It is a real-life consulting project that groups of 5-6 students complete for a company. These are real companies with real problems and offers students a structured look at how consultants operate. Although, I’m bound by a NDA, past students have worked for companies such as TIAA CREFF, Aegon, Eaton, Best Buy, Bank of America and others. This year I have taken the role of team leader and it has proven to be a great experience. I’m enjoying the increased responsibility and look forward to present our work.
More in a couple weeks….
