Ben Clark

Hometown: Seekonk, Massachusetts

Undergrad: Brown University, International Relations

Current City: Honolulu, Hawaii

Current Employment: For the past four years, I’ve been working as a Development & Strategy Associate for The Providence Plan – a private nonprofit with a mission to improve the economic and social well-being of Rhode Island residents. The organization is described as a “Think and Do Tank,” a term that seeks to capture the dual nature of its work. A portion of ProvPlan’s activity – its thinking – consists of providing government agencies and community organizations with reliable data to inform policy. The other half – its doing – is engaged in implementing initiatives that fulfill unmet community needs.

My work at ProvPlan has consisted of designing system change agendas and securing funding for the organization’s five programs: Building Futures and YouthBuild, workforce development programs creating pipelines into the construction industry for low-income residents; New Roots, a capacity building program providing technical assistance to community-based organizations; and Ready to Learn, a program improving Rhode Island’s early childhood education system through professional development.

Why Ben chose Tippie: I initially started looking into Tippie when my fiancée was accepted into a dermatology residency program with the University of Iowa.  The more I’ve come to know about the school, the more impressed I’ve been: Tippie offers a wealth of hands-on experience that can help to support a career “sector shift” for someone like me and its track record of job placement is astounding.

Something Unique About Ben: I’m an aspiring angler, avid travel photographer, and amateur gourmand.
