Halfway through my internship and I’ve learned that time management skills are critical! Campbell is a very meeting intensive company; today, for example, I was only at my desk for an hour! I actually enjoy this aspect of the culture; it fosters a sense of teamwork and it allows me to interact with people outside my brand team. With my recommendation project just over a week away it is sure starting to feel like crunch time! To this point it has been a long journey which has required lots of extra work in the evenings, but I am pleased with how my deck is coming along. The bulk of my effort has now shifted towards my analytical project, an assignment that has turned out to be much more difficult than I first anticipated. I am working on calculating the volumetric impact of Campbell’s AdDress Your Heart, a major PR initiative to promote heart health. Turns out it is really complicated to tie a specific dollar amount to cause marketing as there are so many outside forces that play a role in driving base and incremental sales. No matter what happens from here on out, in the very least I’ll be able to say that this summer has been a fantastic learning experience!
Outside of work, I am taking every opportunity to experience life in Philadelphia. My fellow interns and I have especially enjoyed the city’s many BYOB restaurants. I think the BYOB concept might be my favorite aspect of Philly and it sure makes it a lot more affordable to eat out! I’m expecting the next few weeks to fly. Besides our presentations, we also have some fun intern activities on the agenda including a trip to NYC to visit our advertising agencies, a Phillies game, and the Iron Ladle contest. Iron Ladle is Campbell’s version of Iron Chef. I was surprised when several interns asked me to join their team, as anyone familiar with my cooking knows I am not much help in the kitchen!
Hope you are all enjoying your summer! Looking forward to returning to all my friends in Iowa City in just five weeks…
