Driving Business at Caterpillar

Barry Thomas driving the largest tracker model, the Cat® D11T

While our students were kicking off the first day of classes in the Tippie Full-time MBA Program, Strategic Innovation (SI) Academy Faculty Director, Barry Thomas, and Business Director, Meg Thompson, were meeting with Supply Chain leaders at Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois to discuss the SI Academy curriculum and Caterpillar’s prospective staffing needs.

Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. The company also is a leading services provider through Caterpillar Financial Services, Caterpillar Remanufacturing Services, Caterpillar Logistics Services and Progress Rail Services.

The meeting, arranged by Dan Teschner, Supply Chain Analyst and Tippie alum, was followed by a fascinating tour of Caterpillar’s SS plant where Barry and Meg had the opportunity to see Caterpillar’s line of track-type tractors moving through their production line.  The tour was capped off with Barry and Meg taking their largest tracker model, the Cat® D11T, for a drive in the shipping area of the plant.

Many thanks to Caterpillar for their hospitality and interest in Tippie grads.
