HawkID and Password

New students: You will receive a letter from the Office of Admissions providing your Hawk ID and password. The Hawk ID and password will be used for entry into Blackboard and ISIS.

A Hawk ID password policy has been created to protect students, employees, and resources across campus. Policy guidelines include:

  • Password expiration after 180 days
  • Temporary lock of accounts for 15 minutes after 5 failed login attempts during a 15 minute period
  • Passwords must contain at least two letters and two numbers
  • Passwords cannot match any part of your name
  • New passwords cannot match old passwords

Tools have been provided to make it easier for you to change your password, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without the aid of the Help Desk or STSG. Enrollment for this service is available at the university's Hawk ID website. For more information, see hawkid.uiowa.edu or contact the ITS Help Desk, 384-HELP, 15 Lindquist South.

UI E-mail Account

All University of Iowa students are required to activate their assigned uiowa.edu email address, as all official communication from University offices are now sent via email, rather than hard copy. This address usually follows the pattern firstname-lastname@uiowa.edu.

To Activate Your "@UIOWA.edu" Email Account:

  • Log on to isis.uiowa.edu
  • Click on My UIowa / My Email / Request Email Account
  • Complete the specified steps

Activating your account will automatically provide you with a Hawkmail system to access your "@uiowa.edu" email inbox.

Logging In To Hawkmail via the Web

  • Launch your web browser and type http:// email.uiowa.edu
  • In the "Domain\HawkID" field, type your HawkID.
  • In the "Password" field, type your Hawk ID password.
  • Click the Log On button or press Enter (Mac: Return ).

Re-routing Your "@uiowa.edu" Email To A Work Or Home Email Account:

Off-campus students who prefer to maintain only their work or home email addresses can do so by routing the uiowa.edu email to a work or home account:

  • Log on to isis.uiowa.edu
  • Click on My UIowa / My Email / Update Email Routing Address
  • Complete the specified steps
  • Due to a glitch in the re-routing system you may not receive all of your uiowa.edu mail in your preferred inbox. (see full explanation below) Therefore you should do one of the following until this issue has been resolved:
    • Continue to check your Hawkmail account (instructions above) to make sure you have read all messages.
      OR
    • Call in to the ITS Help Desk at 384-HELP to request the Hawkmail account be terminated. This will ensure all your messages will be re-routed; however, you will no longer be able to access your messages at "http://email.uiowa.edu".

IMPORTANT CAUTION REGARDING RE-ROUTING YOUR UIOWA.EDU EMAIL:

There is a current glitch in the re-routing system. If you have re-routed your "@uiowa.edu" address to an off-campus email address (for example jdoe@rockwellcollins.com) , you may not be receiving all of your uiowa.edu mail in your preferred inbox.

The Problem : When faculty/staff/students send messages to student Hawkmail accounts (the "@uiowa.edu" address), the message remains in Hawkmail and does not forward to the desired routing address. For example, if an instructor emails a student from his/her office computer using the student's "@uiowa.edu" email address, this message will only go to the student's Hawkmail address and will not forward to the routing address that was set up in ISIS. However, emails sent to students via ICON will forward to the routing address.

Long-Term and Short-Term Solutions for Re-routing issue: UI IT Services is working on a long-term solution and should have one in the next 30 days. Until then students who have re-routed their email address should do one of the following:

1) Call in to the ITS Help Desk at 319-384-HELP to request your Hawkmail account be terminated.
OR
2) Check your Hawkmail account to make sure you have read all messages.

OTHER IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • The MBA-PM will continue to correspond with you at the email addresses you have listed in EMBARC. Unfortunately, any changes made in one system, do not automatically get posted in all (Blackboard, EMBARC, and ISIS).
  • If your uiowa.edu email address is routed to a different account, you will not need to change your address in ICON, as your messages will already forward to your routed address.
  • To reduce bulk/mass e-mail:
As a University of Iowa student, you may be receiving emails which are related to University activities but which do not apply directly to MBA-related issues. To "unsubscribe" from these mass emails sent out by the University (except from University Administration and UI Student Government):
    • Log on to isis.uiowa.edu
    • Click on My UIowa / My Email / Email Account Filter filter bulk mail
    • Make sure that none of the categories are checked

ISIS

ISIS is a university-wide self-service information system. You will need to know your hawk ID and password to use ISIS. Although many ISIS features (like course registration) are designed for on-campus students, MBA-PM students will use ISIS to:

  • view course grades
  • request official transcripts
  • view University Bills (U Bills)
  • obtain documentation for company reimbursement
  • check status of admission application
  • review financial aid history and application status
  • obtain enrollment verification certificates

Note: ISIS cannot be used to add/drop MBA-PM courses. You will continue to make changes in your registration through EMBARC at http://www.biz.uiowa.edu/mbapm/registration/. Your username and password for EMBARC will remain unchanged regardless of changes in your hawk ID and hawk ID password.
