For our travels to Italy for the CIMBA program this summer, our family has substantially increased the budget for gelato. Last year, we found ourselves making frequent visits to the local gelateria, and over the course of our four-week adventure, we spent over 80 euro (or $110.75) on gelato. We later determined this amount could purchase nearly 20 gallons of ice cream back in the U.S. I guess this explains why I managed to gain a kilo or two during the trip. Gelato is not just a desert product though, it is a cultural experience. The primary Italian language skills that my boys picked up was how to order their own cup of gelato.

Mmmm, gelato è molto buono!
