Cultural Events
Every year the SOM, MBAA & the IIB sponsor several cultural events which allow students to share and learn about the numerous cultures represented within Tippie's MBA student body.
These events include:
International Luncheons
Each year several international luncheons are held at which MBA students from two or three different countries give presentations on the social and business cultures of their native lands.
In addition to the student presentations, the SOM provides all attendees with a lunch that includes the ethnic flavor of the presenting countries.
The Spring 2005 luncheon featured Germany and Indonesia.
Diwali
Every year MBA students from Indian host a program celebrating Diwali ("Festival of Lights"). Diwali is one of the most well-known Indian festivals and is celebrated throughout India. Each year the Indian students create unique presentations and entertainments that introduce their peers to Indian culture and Diwali traditions.
MBA Thanksgiving
Every November the IIB and SOM co-sponsor the MBA Thanksgiving where MBA students, faculty, staff, family and friends are invited to share in a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner.
It is a chance for both US and International students to share and learn about this most widely celebrated US holiday.
Lunar New Year
Each year Chinese and Korean MBA students host a Lunar New Year Celebration. The Lunar New Year is a general term used to describe the holiday which marks the new year according to the lunar calendar.
This holiday is celebrated holiday in many Asian countries, such as China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, etc., with each nation having its own unique traditions and customs of celebration. Here at Iowa, MBA students annually hold a program that allows them to share and celebrate their traditions and heritage.
