How To Get a Passport

Pleas note: If you do not have a passport and are thinking about this program you need to apply for your passport immediately.

To enter Hong Kong and to obtain a Chinese visa, a valid Passport is required. Students who are U.S. citizens should visit the US State Department website at travel.state.gov.

It takes approximately six weeks to get a passport and the fee is $97, so students who do not yet have a passport should begin the passport application process immediately. First-time passport holders need to apply at one of the official Passport Acceptance Facilities. There are several such facilities in Eastern Iowa, but for Iowa City residents the most convenient is the U.S. Post Office at 400 S. Clinton Street, Iowa City (Phone: 319-354-1560).

Students can arrange for Expedited Service for the processing of their application. This service allows students to receive their passport in two weeks. Expedited Service costs an additional $60.
