Grade Reports & TranscriptsThe University of Iowa Marking System
The grade point average displayed at the bottom of the grade report is truncated so as not to exceed 4.00. The use of "+/-" grade reporting is determined by each academic department. Within departments that allow it, such grade reporting is optional by the instructor and by course. Registrants should query their instructor regarding the use of "+/-" grading in the course for which they have registered. Grade of Incomplete A grade of "I" may be reported only if the unfinished part of the student's work is small, the work is unfinished for reasons acceptable to the instructor, and the student's standing in the course is satisfactory. Courses may not be repeated to remove incompletes. Incomplete grades must be removed by completing the unfinished part of the work. The work must be completed and submitted by no later than the stated deadline during the next session of registration. Students with an incomplete from the spring semester are exempt from completing the course during the succeeding summer session. Failure to remove the "I" by the established deadline will result in an "F" being assigned. (Instructors assigning an "I" may require the registrant to submit incomplete work prior to the stated deadline.) Grade of No Report The "No Report" ("O") designation appearing on a student's permanent record must be changed to a valid grade accordingto the same rules that apply to "Incompletes." Failure to remove the "O" by the specified date will result in an "F" being assigned for each such record the next time the student registers at The University of Iowa. Grade ReportsTo better serve International students, including those who are anxious to see grades or apply for reimbursement, the International staff works with faculty to gather grades during the two weeks immediately following the conclusion of classes. Early grade listings will be prepared by the International staff and will be mailed to you. Official grade reports are available for viewing in ISIS once grades have been posted to University records for that semester. To view grades via ISIS:
