Dean's Welcome

Jay Sa-Aadu, Associate DeanCongratulations! You've taken an important step in advancing your professional career by enrolling in the Tippie MBA Program. Soon you will be busy with team assignments, corporate presentations, case analyses, networking, exams, and student organizations. We're happy that you have chosen our program and hope that you are as excited about the upcoming school year as we are.

At the Tippie School of Management, our goal is to help you develop yourself both professionally and personally. To do this, we will create a partnership that will provide you with ways to advance your professional and leadership potential. Combining the best possible education with opportunities for professional development

In turn, we expect you:

  • To approach the MBA program as an intense two-year professional experience combining classroom learning, practical training, and leadership skill development.
  • To develop a clear personal mission and make effective use of the resources provided to achieve your professional goals.
  • To perform well in the classroom, seek new knowledge and develop the skills to apply that knowledge to business problems.
  • To be fully engaged outside the classroom in Tippie MBA activities that strengthen your leadership potential.
  • To be jointly accountable with us for your career development.

I suggest you work closely with the MBA Career Services staff in your internship and career placement search. Additionally, get involved in the student organizations (maybe even lead one) and participate in School of Management extracurricular activities. By being fully engaged in the program, you are preparing yourself for the best career opportunities after graduation. You must be ready to partner with us in order to advance your professional and personal life.

You may have read in various media that applications to full-time MBA programs across the U.S. have decreased this year. I feel it is important for you to know that this is true at the Tippie MBA Program as well. This means a smaller entering class this fall than in recent years. The personalized model we have developed for education and placement ensures the educational experience and career opportunities you are seeking will be available.

For the Tippie MBA program to continue to grow and improve, we will need your involvement. To make this partnership work well, I will be seeking your advice and input on ways to enhance the program.

Our small class size will provide us with many opportunities to get to know each other over the next two years. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
