“Most people stereotype Iowa City, and the Midwest in general, as lacking in culture. Apparently those people haven’t been here. In Iowa City, people jog unconcerned at 2:00 in the morning, do not lock their cars, and invite people they just met into their homes. On the other hand, Iowa City doesn’t shut down at 5:30 p.m. There are quiet pubs and noisy clubs, poetry readings, open mikes, and impressive theater performances. Iowa City seems to have found equilibrium between big city and small town, offering the pros and eliminating the cons.
