At the Forefront of MBA EducationBusiness can't be covered solely by textbooks and problem sets. So the Tippie MBA delivers a multi-faceted approach to management education - unmatched academic training, experiential learning, hands-on leadership training, exposure to top executives, and professional development. Through your required and elective courses, and our innovative leadership-development modules, you become the kind of manager and problem-solver that corporate recruiters want from top MBA programs. In addition to 30 required credits and 12 concentration credits, MBA students select 18 credits of elective work. These credits may be used to provide more depth in the concentration area, to complete a second concentration, or to expand breadth in several areas of business. You may select from any of the business courses listed or from other graduate courses that support your professional development. If you're interested in taking a presentation-skills workshop, sitting in on an urban-planning survey course, or enrolling in an intensive political-economy class, you can do that at Tippie. The Director of Student Services approves each student's plan of study. The Fulltime MBA curriculum is built upon five curricular themes: Strengthen your Business Foundation: An integrated core curriculum in your first semester builds your business foundation. You will be required to complete 30 core credit hours throughout your MBA studies. Develop the Leader Within: The Tippie Leadership Development Series will immerse you in professional development, communication, and teambuilding activities advancing your leadership potential. The leadership series will kick off your studies before you begin your core classes the first year. You will then re-visit the concepts introduced that first week mid-way through your first semester to help reinforce all that you have learned. Experience the World: We believe a top education includes more than just classroom study. We encourage you to get involved in one of our Real Time Corporate Projects (RTCP's), travel overseas through our "Experience China" program, participate in a national MBA case competition, or study abroad. We hope you will make this a "no boundaries" education. Craft Your Professional Portfolio: Your professional portfolio is a culmination of all of your experiences at Tippie. The first step to crafting your professional portfolio will begin in the MBA Competitive Prep course your first semester. During your first semester you will work with experts to sharpen the critical skills needed to stand out to employers. You will continue to craft your portfolio throughout your courses, mastering business fundamentals and developing expertise in a functional area that is of interest to you. Master Business Strategy: Learning strategic frameworks, practical analytical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, and visualizing the "big picture" are all critical skills needed for success in the ever changing business world. Mastering business strategy is taught through case competitions, coursework and finally through a complex business simulation delivered in the last semester of the program.
