Operations Management
The operations management concentration teaches you the essentials of how to combine and convert the various material, financial, and human resources available in an organization to gain and maintain a competitive edge. Both the manufacturing and service sectors are included in course material that deals with issues such as distribution, production, scheduling, inventory control, and total quality management.
This concentration requires 12 credit hours. Required courses include three of the following: 06K:217, 06K:227, 06K:285, 06K:292, and 06K:294. Additional options for the remaining 3 credit hours include: 06A:235, 06K:201, 06K:277 (contemporary topics course offered periodically), and 06M:234.

06K:201 Directed Readings in Management Sciences
Independent study of a specialized topic in management sciences. (3 credits)

06K217 Data and Decisions II
Advanced quantitative analysis techniques with management applications; multiple regression, time series, monte-carlo simulation, and linear, nonlinear, and discrete optimization; emphasis on spreadsheet-based modeling. Prerequisite: 06N:216 or consent of instructor. (3 credits)

06K:227 Introduction to Modeling with VBA
Students learn to use Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) in Microsoft Excel. Basic programming concepts are explored in VBA, macros, and models for decision making in Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Accounting. No prior programming experience is required. (3 credits)

06K:285 Project Management
Preparation for managing projects and project portfolios; project selection, project planning and budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, project control; integration of project planning tools, including project management software. (3 credits)

06K:292 Supply Chain Management
Design, operation, and management of logistics systems; design of production/service and warehousing systems, including distribution channel selection, inventory, transportation, customer partnering. Prerequisite: 06N:229 (3 credits)

06K:294 Rapid Continuous Improvement
This course provides a hands-on experience during which regional companies, at the cutting edge of applying this technique sponsor students in RCI teams during Spring Break. Consent of instructor required. (3 credits)

06A:235 Managerial Accounting
Cost accumulation, reporting, cost management systems; managerial and divisional performance evaluation; appropriate use of cost data for short- and long-run decisions; product costing in manufacturing and service industries. Prerequisite: 06N:215 (3 credits)

Techniques of new product development; idea generation, concept screening, product design, market testing, forecasting, brand management strategies. Prerequisites: 06N:211 and 06N:216. (3 credits)
