VariabilitySummary:
While many people understand normal variability (rolling a single die or a pair of dice) in independent environments, few understand the impact of interdependency. By rolling a die and moving tokens through simple structures, the student sees and feels the effects. The simulation need not be complex. Simple experiments quickly demonstrate basic principles. There are several variations that illustrate different concepts. And, there are recommendations for the instructor who wants to teach robust systems analysis using manual simulation.
